Southeastern Neurosurgical & Spine Institute treats adult patients with conditions that may modify the function or activity of the brain and/or the spine. Our surgeons perform a wide variety of spine surgery procedures ranging from limited incision minimally-invasive surgery to complex multilevel reconstruction surgery. As part of the GHS Neuroscience Institute, we provide both surgical and non-surgical treatment.
Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MIS)
Minimally invasive procedures allow surgeons to perform many spinal surgeries through skin punctures or incisions less than 1-inch long. MIS can be used to treat herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and some types of spinal deformity. Many procedures are performed on an outpatient basis.
There are potential benefits to minimally invasive surgery …
- Reduced operative time
- Less soft tissue damage, due to reduced muscle retraction
- Reduced blood loss
- Less painful surgical incisions that heal faster
- Less postoperative pain
- Shorter hospital stay
- Smaller, more cosmetically pleasing scars
