Emergency Department Cohort

The emergency department cohort supports emergency services at these Prisma Health facilities.

Easley Hospital

Emergency Department: Provides top-quality emergency medicine to the Easley community, caring for more than 35,000 patients annually. Supported by an 11-bed ICU, 49-bed critical adult care and pediatric units, a 13-bed OB unit, state of the art OR suites, and an adjacent outpatient facility that houses Fleetwood Convenient Care with a walk-in clinic and many primary care offices.

Greenville Memorial Medical Campus

Emergency Trauma Center: Greenville Memorial Medical Center’s Emergency Trauma Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, Accredited Chest Pain Center, and is a Magnet facility. The unit is comprised of 78 beds including a 7-bed behavioral unit. It has the ability to see all types of patients and provide specialized interventions. This department supports the community and many surrounding areas through research and specialized care.

Children’s Emergency Center:  A 15-bed unit that serves the community and surrounding areas from newborn to age 17.  It is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center which cares for the sickest children in our region as well as those with lower acuity needs.

Greer Memorial Hospital

Emergency Department: This is a 25-bed unit with an annual volume of 36,000 patients. It is a Magnet facility and a Primary Stroke Center. It is supported by a 36-bed Med/Surg unit, 8-bed ICU, 10-bed LDRP, 4-OR suites, and 3-pediatric observation beds.

Hillcrest Hospital

Emergency Department: This unit is an 18-bed emergency department that sees approximately 30,000 patients a year. The ED sees a variety of acuity levels and will transfer specialized needs to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Hillcrest Hospital specializes in bariatric surgery care and is on track to become a Primary Stroke Center.

Laurens County Hospital

Emergency Department: A 16-bed emergency department and 7-bed locked Behavioral Health Unit. This emergency department has the second highest acuity in the system, second to Greenville Memorial Hospital Emergency Department and is located in a rural community hospital.

North Greenville Hospital

Emergency Department: Located in Travelers Rest, this community emergency department is comprised of 8-beds. It sees an annual volume of around 18,000 patients, both adult and pediatric. It is almost like a free-standing emergency department in that all patients requiring further treatment will be transferred to another facility within Prisma Health – Upstate system via ambulance or helicopter.

Oconee Memorial Hospital

Emergency Department: A 19-bed emergency department that see a variety of patients of all ages. We are close-knit community hospital serving a growing tri-state area. For 80 years we have been treating patients of all ages and a broad variety of emergencies.

Program Structure
  • Structured orientation plan with (10-24 weeks, dependent on cohort) guided education, computer-based training content and precepted time with experienced RNs
  • Clinical, professional development and reflective practice sessions to aid in the development of self-care and resilienc
  • Simulation and skill lab experience using current professional curriculum, standards and evidence-based guideline
  • Interactive class and computer-based educational support from national nursing organizations per cohort-specific content
  • Engagement with Prisma Health-Upstate clinical experts and leaders in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care
  • Successful completion of weekly goals and objectives per cohort, in addition to a program and simulation competency final
