Together We Serve

Greenville Health System is committed to bridging communication and cultures compassionately and innovatively for the patients, families and communities we serve. That’s why GHS’ Office of Diversity is pleased to offer translation and interpretation services for free to patients who need them through the Department of Language Services.

GHS is one of the few health systems in the nation that features a team of in-house translators. This team translates a wide variety of GHS documents to ensure that patients with limited or no English proficiency have access to print materials. In Fiscal Year 2014, the team translated approximately 329,000 words!

The department boasts a team of 45 qualified medical interpreters who provide services in person, over the phone or by video-totaling more than 70,000 encounters in FY 2014 alone. These highly trained interpreters serve GHS hospitals, outpatient facilities and physician practices and are stationed on-site at several locations.

This fiscal year, our interpreters …

  • Interacted via remote video in areas such as Seneca, Laurens and Spartanburg to serve physician practices (more than 6,800 “visits”)
  • Facilitated nearly 54,900 in-person interpreting encounters
  • Were involved in 8,500 phone interpretations

Patients can request an in-person or over-the-phone interpreter at any time by calling (864) 455-HOLA, which provides access to more than 200 languages.
