Prisma Health–Upstate is one of the few health systems in the nation with a team of in-house translators. This team translates a variety of documents to ensure that patients with limited or no English proficiency have access to print materials. In 2018, team members translated more than 654,000 words.
The team provides access to more than 200 languages. In addition to Spanish, commonly requested languages include Vietnamese, Arabic, American Sign Language and Chinese.
Prisma Health provides interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing patients using both in-person and video-remote interpreters. Our video interpreting service provides the patient with a view of the interpreter through a computer screen.
