I tried the vampire facial … and it’s to die for!

Guess what I did today? I went out in the world with NO makeup on and felt good about it!

I typically don’t wear a LOT of makeup, but I have to put on a little powder to even out my skin tone and hide the dark circles under my eyes, then a touch of blush for that rosy glow. I have a husband, two kids, two jobs, a cat and two dogs to keep me busy each and every day. Yes, dark eye circles are a norm for me—but not today. Today, I threw on a little moisturizer and lip gloss and headed into the office with no dark under eye circles, an even, smooth skin tone and a natural glow on this face. Now let me tell you what I did yesterday.

Every once in a while, I’ll splurge on an eye cream or facial, but usually I’m an over-the-counter facewash and lotion type of girl. So for me, trying the Vampire Facial, also known as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment, was a huge deal. The major component that sold me on this micro-needling treatment was that it is 100% natural. No foreign chemicals injected into your skin—only your very own super-rich, cell regenerating, skin boosting plasma. Yes, plasma; hence the name “Vampire Facial.”

The staff at Carolina Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics was phenomenal. They could tell I was nervous because I’d never had micro-needling before, and on top of that, having my blood drawn is not my favorite. They were friendly, explained the steps as we went along and made sure my table was extra warm and toasty. (Bonus points for a soft blanket and warm treatment table.)

First they draw a tiny vial of blood and take it to spin so the plasma separates out. While that is happening, your skin is cleaned with a pleasant-smelling facial wash, then numbed with a numbing gel. After about 30 minutes of napping on the warm and cozy treatment table, your entire face and neck are then micro-needled as your plasma is rubbed onto your skin. The entire process went by quickly, and the numbing gel worked perfectly. I barely felt a thing.

Immediately after the treatment, my skin was a little red. The next day it was still red—similar to a sunburn—and a little puffy. But by day two, I could clearly see the results: Dark eye circles? Gone. Skin tone? Even. Laugh lines? What laugh lines?

Have you ever seen a vampire movie? They all have flawless, never-aging skin. Now I know how to get those same results. Almost 40, and now I’m proud to grab only my lip gloss and go about my day. I count that as a beauty win. Team Vampire all the way!
