GREENVILLE, S.C.(March 23, 2017) –Sarah Fabiano, MD, medical director of Greenville Health System (GHS) MedTrans and AirMed Regional, has been named the state’s 2016 Medical Director of the Year by the South Carolina EMS Association. The association also named GHS MedTrans the 2016 Small System of the Year.
The South Carolina EMS Association is made up of ambulance service, educational facilities and state government representatives from across the state whose goal is to promote and support EMS through education and legislative efforts. Fabiano was selected to receive the award based on her commitment and attention to patient care at every step of the emergency transport process, as well as her dedication to expanding resources and offering ongoing training opportunities to staff. Fabiano is also committed to her own continuing education, pursuing her EMT-basic certification to better understand the needs of her team, while maintaining a full-time role as an emergency medicine physician at GHS.
“Although she has a full-time role within GHS, Dr. Fabiano in no way sees her role as medical director as an ancillary duty. She dedicates more than 15 to 20 hours a week to our organizations,” said David Ellis, program manager for GHS MedTrans and AirMed Regional. “Her dedication to our flight team’s training, cohesion and welfare is second to none.”
Fabiano attended medical school at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, and completed her residency at the University of Rochester. She has been on staff with GHS since 2015 and was recently published in the Encyclopedia of Trauma.
