GREENVILLE, S.C. – The eleventh annual Children’s Hospital Radiothon, presented by Entercom Upstate, has raised $240,266 for Children’s Hospital of Greenville Health System (GHS), helping sustain the many programs and services that support children and families during a hospital stay.
The majority of fundraising occurred during a live two-day radio broadcast on seven Entercom Upstate stations: 106.3 WORD, ESPN Upstate, Classic Rock 101.1, 93.3 The Planet, Magic 98.9, B93.7 and 96.3 The Block. Additional funds were raised through online and text-to-give donations that accrued in the days following the live broadcast. The success of this year’s event brings the total amount raised by Radiothon to over $3 million since 2007.
The donations raised fund the Dream Gap, which is the array of services that make a hospital stay more comfortable and help restore a sense of normalcy for patients and families. These services are not covered under a normal operating budget and may include specialized medical equipment, such as special needs car seats; items needed for everyday care and play, such as iPads and toys; and funding for larger programs, including the facility dog program and the summer camps that GHS Children’s Hospital sponsors free of charge to patients.
“Hospital stays can be intimidating emotional experiences for children and parents. The funds we receive from Radiothon are critical to ensuring that we can provide these families with the support and resources they need while they are in our care,” said Robin LaCroix, MD, medical director of GHS Children’s Hospital. “We are so thankful to the community, and especially to Entercom Upstate listeners, for their continued support of Radiothon.”
GHS Children’s Hospital serves all of upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina and eastern Georgia. The money raised during Radiothon impacts more than 400,000 patients and families each year.
