Regular gynecological checkups are important to the health of any woman. If you are 21 years of age or older, or sexually active, you should see a gynecologist each year. Do not wait until you have a problem to establish a relationship with a gynecologist.
What to expect during your visit:
Be prepared to answer personal questions about your family history, any current medications you’re taking and information related to your menstrual cycle.
- Breast Exam
Your gynecologist will perform a clinical breast exam to check for suspicious lumps or changes in your breasts since your last visit. We encourage all women to do a monthly self-breast examination.
- Abdominal exam
Your doctor will gently press on your abdomen to examine for scars, masses or other abnormalities.
- Speculum and Pap smear
Procedure performed to test for cervical cancer as well as other infections.
- Bimanual exam
This is done to check the internal pelvic organs, including the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes.
If you have problems with abnormal or painful periods, or if you notice another change in your gynecologic health between annual exams, do not hesitate to call our office at (864) 522-5500.
