STARband Cranial Remolding

STARband & STARscanner

Our team of Board Certified Orthotists have treated over 1,500 children for plagiocephaly and craniosynostosis over the past 10 years. We utilize the STAR Family of Cranial Remolding Orthoses by Orthomerica. This cranial remolding orthosis (helmet) has been used to treat positional Plagiocephaly, Brachycephaly, Scaphocephaly and other head shape deformities in infants 3-18 months of age. It is the first cranial remolding orthosis with FDA clearance available to Orthotics and Prosthetics practitioners across the United States and around the globe.

  • Each helmet is individually customized and designed to fit your child.
  • We have the only STARscanner system in the Upstate, so no need for messy plaster casts. In addition, scanning technology is more accurate.
  • The STARband® and STARlight designs provide total contact over the prominent areas of the skull and leave voids over the flattened areas to provide a pathway for more symmetrical skull growth.
  • Treatment generally takes 3–4 months, but varies depending on the infant’s age and severity of cranial asymmetry.

We work closely with E. Christopher Troup, MD (Pediatric Neurosurgery) and Joseph C. Debrux Jr., MD, FACS (Plastic Surgery), who specialize in surgery for craniosynostosis.
