Visiting Medical Students

General Information for Visiting Medical Students

• GHS accepts visiting fourth year medical students for electives from any United States medical school fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) on a space-available basis. GHS does not accept any medical students enrolled in international medical schools.
• Visiting students must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing as a candidate for the M.D. or D.O. degree at his/her home school and must have completed all required core rotations prior to initiating elective work at GHS. GHS does not accept any third year medical students for electives or core rotations.
• Visiting students must submit a background check. Approval of the rotation is contingent upon the results of the background check.
• Visiting students are responsible for their own personal health care costs and must provide current documentation of health insurance coverage as well as immunization status.
• Applications for visiting students will be processed after May 1st of the applicant's third year of medical school but no later than six weeks prior to the start of the rotation period. The applicant will be notified as soon as departmental approval or disapproval has been received by the GHS Office of Student Services. 
• A processing fee of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00), which is due at the time of application, is assessed of each visiting student. This fee must be paid by check. No cash will be accepted. Checks are not deposited until after electives are approved and will be returned to the student if the elective is filled or otherwise unavailable. However, the processing fee will not be refunded for cancellation.
• Any application received that has not been completed in its entirety, including the $150.00 check, will be returned to the applicant.  
• Visiting students who are unable to attend an approved elective are responsible for notifying the GHS Office of Student Services regarding cancellation at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the rotation period.
• Limited student housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Parking is provided for visiting medical students.
• Scrubs are provided for visiting medical students.
• Visiting students are responsible for their own meals.
