GHS and the YMCA of Greenville have partnered to create the PATH Kids Splash & Dash Series. The PATH Series is a fun way for kids ages 3-16 to get a taste of multi-sport competition without the pressure of a full triathlon. Each event features a pool swim followed by a cross country run. Our focus is on encouraging participation and getting kids of all ages active. The 3-event series will take place at the Life Center on June 22, the Caine Halter Family YMCA on July 20 and the GHS Family YMCA on August 3. PATH (Partners Achieving Total Health) is a wellness initiative of Greenville Hospital System (GHS) and YMCA of Greenville that provides access to fitness and preventative care that’s affordable, easily accessible and focused on reaching people before they get sick.
Special Conditions for Age 3-5:
Participants ages 3-5 are required to wear a coastguard approved life vest and be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the pool. A limited number of life vests will be available on a first come first serve basis. We strongly encourage you to bring your own life preserver.
Start Times:
First swimmer starts at 8am. Start times will be assigned by age group and posted on website 2 days prior to event.
Body Marking
All participants will have a race number marked on their arms and legs by our staff and volunteers. Each participant will have their age marked on the back of their leg.
Swim Course
Participants will swim in the pool. Kids will start one at a time at 5 second intervals. Kids will swim up one lane and upon reaching the wall, will switch to the next lane going back the other way. This will be a zigzag pattern across the pool until their swim finish. Participants are permitted to walk on the bottom or hold onto the lane rope if necessary. Life preservers are permitted. Flip turns are allowed. No wetsuits are allowed.
Run Course
Participants will exit the pool and proceed to a transition area to change to their running shoes and put on their race bib number. Race bib numbers must be worn for the run portion of the event. The cross country run will take place on facility property in a protected area where we can control vehicle traffic. The course features a mixture of grass, dirt road and pavement.
Timing
The event will be timed by Square One Events. Each participant must wear a timing chip for the duration of the race or he/she will not receive a timed result. All timing chips must be returned immediately following the finish. There will be volunteers collecting chips at the finish line, but returning the chip is ultimately the responsibility of each participant.
