John J. Schaefer III, M.D.
Education and Research Center of Economic Excellence in Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Safety
“My reason for relocating to South Carolina from the University of Pittsburgh is really very simple. South Carolina offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a positive impact – economically, professionally and health-wise – on literally millions of lives.”
Dr. Schaefer is an internationally renowned expert in the field of patient simulation research and education. He recently left his position as director of the University of Pittsburgh’s Peter M. Winter Center for Simulation, Education and Research to become Health Sciences South Carolina’s first endowed chair holder. He is charged with creating a statewide network of patient simulation training laboratories and with directing associated research.
Dr. Schaefer also serves as a professor of anesthesiology at the Medical University of South Carolina. He holds secondary appointments at the University of South Carolina and Clemson University.
