Welcome to the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center (GHS) Medicine-Pediatrics Web site! Med-Peds is an exciting and rewarding medical specialty. Med-Peds physicians may pursue a wide range of interesting career choices caring for patients across the age span. The Greenville Hospital System Med-Peds program is committed to providing our residents with the most balanced and comprehensive medical training available in a friendly, supportive learning environment. The Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center is a large network of hospitals and medical offices serving the needs of 70% of patients in the upstate region of South Carolina. While the vast majority of the adult and pediatric training experiences occur under one roof at Greenville Memorial and Children’s Hospital, our residents are free to enroll in electives with teaching faculty throughout the health system, including with our Med-Peds hospitalist program in nearby Greer. Currently, GHS serves as an upstate campus for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. In 2012, The University of South Carolina School of Medicine at Greenville will open its doors on our campus. This brand-new four year medical school will further enhance the educational mission of our hospital system and will provide increasing opportunities for teaching and mentorship for our faculty and residents.
We have been very fortunate here in Greenville to have a cohesive, supportive, and hard-working group of residents who are devoted to patient care and to each other. Our Med-Peds residents fit seamlessly within two excellent categorical programs while still retaining their own unique identity. In addition, our residents enjoy a close working relationship with the program director and our other Med-Peds trained faculty and fellows.
Our primary missions are to train med-peds residents to become outstanding clinicians, and to develop leaders in primary or specialty care for children and adults. Whether your goals are to pursue hospital medicine, primary care Med-Peds, general academics, or subspecialty fellowship training, our diverse and challenging program will provide you with the skills, experiences, and mentorship necessary to develop a successful and rewarding Med-Peds career.
