Academic Medicine Overview

Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center (GHS) strives to provide an environment where the best and brightest medical professionals can thrive in their careers and help us advance the art and science of health care in Upstate South Carolina and beyond.

Greenville Hospital System has seven fully accredited medical residency programs and four fellowship programs. At any give time, these programs account for over 160 medical residents and fellows working across the hospital system.

GHS is a training site for the third and fourth year medical students from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. By 2010, fully half of the third and fourth year USC medical students will be trained in the GHS system.

In 2006, GHS became the 97th member to join University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC). To become part of this university medical center group requires demonstrating excellence in service and in teaching.
