Greenville Memorial Hospital Stroke Program
We are dedicated to providing the best quality stroke care in the upstate of South Carolina. The stroke program at Greenville Memorial Hospital has been certified by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center since 2009. We also maintain Gold-Plus and Target Stroke-Elite Plus performance status with the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines program.
The Joint Commission bestows the certification for Primary Stroke Centers to hospitals that make great efforts to improve the care and treatment of patients who suffer stroke. This certification demonstrates that services provided by the hospital meet current standards of care that have been linked to improving outcomes for stroke survivors. Achieving and maintaining this distinction is a signal to the upstate community the emphasis that GHS places on meeting the needs of our patients suffering a stroke.

We are the only hospital in the area that offers Endovascular treatment for stroke and a Comprehensive Rehab Center. Greenville Memorial Hospital also has 24-hour neurology and neurosurgery coverage and operates a NeuroDirect Telemedicine service for partnering hospitals in the upstate of South Carolina. Because many hospitals in the region do not have neurologists on staff to respond to stroke patients in the emergency room, GHS physicians are able to help by using telemedicine. This can allow the proper life saving measures to be in place even from a distance.
