Welcome to Girls on the Run of Greenville Hospital System Children's Hospital - a life-changing, non-profit prevention program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade.
Girls on the Run (ages 8-11) and Girls on Track (ages 12-15) combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with healthy living education. During the 12 week program, girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement, and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, contented and self-confident young women. Each session is led by trained female coaches that guide and mentor girls through a fun and uplifting curriculum. Coaches teach specific life lessons such as dealing with body image and the media, resisting peer-pressure, making healthy decisions, and contributing to the community.
Girls on the Run of Greenville Hospital System Children's Hospital is an Affiliate Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of 160 locations across the United States and Canada. The success of Girls on the Run is accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community.
While the principal philosophies and psychological research behind the Girls on the Run (GOTR) and Girls on Track (GOT) programs are the same, the level of discussion varies. With middle school participants, we delve into more targeted and age-appropriate discussion regarding certain topics (eating disorders, tobacco and alcohol use, personal/internet safety and harassment, to name a few). With the younger girls, the conversation on these topics is more general or may not occur at all.
Fee: $150 for the twelve week session.
