These words describe our culture but curiosity describes our team members. When clinicians are able to approach each patient with curiosity, they obtain the best outcomes. When our team members approach one another with curiosity, we obtain the best team. We encourage all of our team members to be whoever it is that they are supposed to be and to teach someone else a little bit about themselves. This fuels our culture, our care, and our commitment to the communities that we serve.
Prisma Health–Upstate’s goal is to establish itself as a leader in optimizing the health care environment and experience through incorporating principles and practices of inclusion. Our organization is a place where individuals are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone with healthy curiosity.
A Multicultural Advisory Council has been established to help ensure the voices of the community and our team members are heard. The committee provides input and guidance in shaping health care services and engages stakeholders in planning, designing and assigning diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, both internally and externally.
In 2018 Prisma Health–Upstate was honored during the S.C. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce ¡Impacto! Excellence in Business Awards ceremony. The system was lauded for its support of the chamber’s mission over the last decade.
Diversity is more than a program—it is an integral part of who we are. Curiosity toward diversity takes on a strategic significance as we recognize the increasing diversity of the workforce and the patients we serve. We strive to ensure all patients, team members and visitors are treated with respect and feel welcomed within our system.
At Prisma Health–Upstate, the curiosity towards diversity does not stop at the physical, cultural, or religious but purposefully includes the dimensions that are at times harder to appreciate.
