Greenville Health System (GHS) has made a commitment to excellence. Our strategy and goals are developed in support of the GHS Mission, Vision and Values.

Our fiscal year goals and measures are tied to six pillars of excellence: people, service, quality, growth, finance and academics.

People
We work to transform health care.

The fiscal year 2013 Employee Opinion Survey was conducted in March 2013. The goal was to achieve a participation of 80-83%. GHS exceeded its goal, achieving a 90% participation rate. 

Service
Patients and families are the focus of everything we do. 

We measure inpatient satisfaction scores using the HCAHPS survey. This survey measures the patient experience with regards to particular aspects of hospital care.  Our target for fiscal year 2013 is five (of eight) HCAHPS domains at or above the 75th percentile (top quartile).

We measure patient satisfaction with our physician practices using the CG-CAHPS survey. This survey asks patients to report on their experiences with providers and office staff at their most recent visit to a doctor's office. It focuses on experiences during a single visit rather than over a period of time and can provide medical practices with valuable information for monitoring and improvement. Our target for fiscal year 2013 is 60th percentile (top quartile). 

Quality
We provide the right care at the right time in the right place.

Value-based purchasing, a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) initiative, will reward (reimburse) hospitals, including Greenville Health System, for delivering high-quality care, treating their patients with respect and compassion, and ensuring they have the opportunity to participate in decisions about their treatment. Our target for fiscal year 2013 is 98% (top quartile).

Key to patient safety is the development of an organization-wide culture of safety. This is best measured using the AHRQ Patient Safety Culture Survey tool with standardized results and benchmarks. Our target for fiscal year 2013 is 60% participation. The survey will be administered in August 2013.

Growth
We develop our system to meet the needs of our communities.

GHS has expanded its primary care services across the Upstate to meet the needs of our growing community. Our target for fiscal year 2013 is 55,396 new patient visits.

Finance
We responsibly direct our resources to support our mission.

A healthy operating margin is necessary for a health system like GHS to invest in capital and technology and further position itself to meet the growing healthcare needs of its community. Our target for fiscal year 2013 is an operating margin of 2.5%. 

Academics  
We educate to transform health care.

Education and research are critical to our ability to transform health care. Our target for fiscal year 2013 is 160 peer-reviewed, published articles with GHS identification/attribution. 

As an academic health system, GHS is committed to both quality and transparency.
