With the opening of the Greenville HealthCare Simulation Center in spring of 2007, GHS stands at the threshold to change the way doctors, nurses, and allied professionals train. It provides a cost-effective, efficient system for providing a realistic training experience within a controlled setting. The pediatric component specifically includes SimNewB, SimBaby, SimJunior, Noelle (an adult female simulator who gives birth), and Trauma Boy along with task trainers for intubation, IV insertion, lumbar puncture, circumcision, and other pediatric-specific procedures. Work with the simulators has been incorporated into the orientation for pediatric residents. In addition, simulation center exercises mirroring the topics of the Nelson lecture series are conducted each period. Our residents also participate in multi-disciplinary mock codes using the advanced code simulators.
