Can I send a “Universal Application for Residency”?
No. The only applications that we review are those that are submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service, also known as ERAS. You may learn more about ERAS at: www.aamc.org/students/eras/start.htm
When is your deadline for applications?
The deadline for applications is December 31st.
How many letters of recommendation do I need to submit?
We require a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation.
Do you require a letter from the Chair of Pediatrics at my school?
We do not require a Chair’s letter.
Do all of my letters of recommendation need to be from pediatricians?
We would like letters from individuals who know you well and are in a position to comment on your skills, abilities, accomplishments and suitability for a residency program.
Is there a maximum number of letters of recommendation you will accept?
We accept letters of recommendation through ERAS. In recent years, ERAS has accepted a maximum of four letters. We will review and consider any letter of recommendation that comes to us through ERAS.
How will I be notified if I am offered an interview?
All communication with applicants is via e-mail. We review applications on a rolling basis. We will review an application once we receive the ERAS application form and personal statement, medical school transcript and USMLE or COMLEX scores. Some applications are put on hold until we receive the Medical Student Performance Evaluation/Dean’s Letter that is transmitted to programs by ERAS beginning on November 1st.
Once our selection committee reviews your application and sees that you meet our criteria, you will receive an invitation to interview via e-mail.
How should I schedule an interview?
You should either call our office or email our office to set up an interview date.
When are interviews held?
Our interviews will begin the first week of November and go through the end of January with the exception of Thanksgiving week, Christmas week and New Year's week. Our interview days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.
How are interview dates assigned?
When you call or email to schedule an interview, you should let us know a date that you have in mind. We will check the calendar to see if that date is available. After a date is set you will receive a confirmation letter via email with details of the interview visit (i.e. hotel information, time to arrive for the interview, etc.) We provide a night’s stay the evening before the interview day and some of our residents will take the applicant and spouse/guest out to dinner the evening before.
May I request a particular pediatric subspecialty physician to interview me at the residency interview?
We focus interview days on the residency program. If you have research or subspecialty career interests, please let us know and we will try to match your interview with one of our faculty in that particular field if possible.
