A Typical Day

7:00 to 8:30: Pre-rounding

8:30 to 11:00: Inpatient work rounds and teaching rounds, followed by patient care

11:00 to 12:00: Patient care and discharge

12:30 to 1:30: Lunch and Mid-day conference

1:30 to 4:30:  Inpatient care, admissions, and teaching (continuity clinic once/week)

4:30 to 5:00: Sign out to on-call team upper level

8:00:  Sign out to night team*

*The overnight on-call team consists of one PGY-1 and one PGY-2. A PGY-3 is in house covering the PICU and available for further support as needed. An additional PGY-1 takes “short call” from 5:00 until 10:00 p.m. each weeknight and from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends. The “short call” role is to field phone calls from outpatients after hours and to support the on-call team as necessary. Inpatient PGY-1 call is seven night shifts.
