The heart of Greenville Hospital System is Greenville Memorial Medical Campus (GMMC), a series of specialized centers housed under one roof, which includes Women's Hospital.
Women's Hospitals the largest women's service in South Carolina with more than 5,300 babies born each year and over 3,000 inpatient and outpatient gynecological surgeries performed annually. While volume, technology, professional expertise, and research are important, the Women's Hospital also emphasizes personal care and customer service as well.
Primary OB/GYN care is offered through our physician network and our Resident Service OB/GYN Center, which has more than 24,000 patient visits annually.
The Gynecologic Oncology Division offers comprehensive diagnostic and preventive screening services and care to patients with gynecologic malignancies. Care through the Gynecologic Oncology Division is provided in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Inpatient services, including the majority of surgery, postoperative care, inpatient chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, are provided within the Women's Hospital.
The Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) Division offers the most current treatments for hormonal disorders and infertility. The most advanced reproductive technologies are available through REI. The Infertility program has achieved success beyond that of many programs nationwide. An anonymous oocyte donation program and donor sperm insemination program also are available.
In addition to caring for the infertile couple, the division is the primary referral center for women experiencing difficulties with hormone replacement therapy, disorders of androgen excess, galactorrhea, congenital anomalies of the female genital tract, and pubertal abnormalities. The Division has extensive basic science and clinical research programs.
The Urogynecology Division offers all modalities to diagnose and treat urinary incontinence in women. Specific testing capabilities within the Division include a full-service urodynamic testing lab and cystourethroscopy. Specialized studies are used to pinpoint the cause of urinary incontinence and to identify the most appropriate form of treatment, including behavioral, medical, and surgical modalities. The research program focuses on causation of, and surgical approaches to, pelvic relaxation and incontinence.
The Maternal-Fetal Medical Division offers prepregnancy counseling to patients with a history of genetic and other complications of pregnancy, obstetric consultation and subspecialty care to patients with complications of pregnancy, and has a 3-D/4-D ultrasound center accomplishing first trimester genetic screening as well as obstetric ultrasound capabilities.
An array of genetic counseling and testing modalities are available, including chorionic villus sampling (CVS), amniocentesis, and placental biopsy. Specialized services, such as intrauterine umbilical blood sampling (PUBS) and intrauterine fetal transfusions, also are available.
Special inpatient services for this division include a High Risk Obstetrics Unit for hospital-based care for complications during pregnancy and a state-of-the-art Labor/Delivery/Recovery Unit backed up by a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The research programs focus on infectious disease and preterm labor.
The Gynecology Division provides for the education of residents in the ambulatory and surgical settings. Special programs are available in adolescent gynecology, infectious disease of the lower genital track, vulvavaginal disorders, and menopause management. The large surgical volume provides the opportunity to acquire excellent surgical skills.
