GHS’ Nursing Recruitment and Retention Council announces an exciting training opportunity for nursing students. A 12-week paid nursing extern program will launch in May, featuring one-on-one mentoring, choice of clinical placement and experience in the full continuum of care.
What does the program include?
• Duration: May 21-August 4, 2012
• One-week hospital orientation
• Ten-week clinical experience – 36 hours per week day shift, following an R.N. mentor’s schedule
• One-week unpaid vacation July 1 - July 7, 2012
Where will externs work?
Externs will rank their clinical area preferences for placement. To see the continuum of care and for exposure to acute care nursing, Externs will experience three clinical rotations in areas such as Emergency, Critical Care and Pediatrics.
Who is eligible?
The program is open to rising seniors enrolled in a bachelor of science in nursing program who have an anticipated graduation date within the next 12 months. Successful completion of at least one clinical course is also required.
What is the application process?
Candidates apply online at ghscareers.org/ (search job number 2011-8018 under new applicants) between January 3 and January 24, 2012.
How are externs selected?
Fifteen externs will be selected after a comprehensive application review and interview process. Telephone screening interviews will be conducted February 6 – February 17, 2012. In-person interviews will be held between March 5 and March 23, 2012 for qualified applicants. Notification of acceptance into the Extern Program will be the week of March 26, 2012.
