Dr. Eric Bour named president of Simpsonville Medical Campus

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center (GHS) announced today (Aug. 18) that Dr. Eric Bour has been named president of the Simpsonville Medical Campus, effective October 1. This is the first time a physician has held this type of leadership position within GHS.

“Physician leadership and guidance is critical to our efforts to become a highly integrated delivery system,” said Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Greg Rusnak. “Dr. Bour possesses a unique perspective and the business management and leadership skills needed to lead the Simpsonville Medical Campus to new heights.”

Dr. Bour has been performing bariatric surgery at Hillcrest Memorial Hospital for the past 10 years and plans to remain clinically active in the program while serving as campus president. In fact, he and his staff were instrumental in helping the hospital achieve recognition as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Bour has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University and a medical degree from Pennsylvania State University Medical School. He completed his surgical residency and post-doctoral research fellowship at Pennsylvania State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He served as academic faculty at Pennsylvania State and the University of South Carolina before moving to the Upstate in 1999.

Dr. Bour is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He also serves as vice chair of quality for GHS’ department of surgery. Outside of GHS, Dr. Bour serves on a number of committees of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
