Eligibility

GHS Medical Experience (MedEx) Academy Tier 1 – Rising High School Seniors--Student Qualifications: 

• Complete online application (application form, essay, school transcript, letters of references, permission slips signed, etc.) 
• Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA 
• Rank in the top 1/3 of students from your school
• Be a Greenville County public, private, or home school student 
• Students should: 
  • Adhere to direction 
  • Have effective verbal, nonverbal, and written communications skills 
  • Exhibit desire to learn 
  • Exhibit professionalism 
  • Work well with others 
  • Have reliable transportation

PREFERRED 

• Students who participate in introductory programs in health care such as the Medical Explorers Program, GHS Health Careers Programs, Upstate AHEC, Upstate Coalition, etc. 
• Students who volunteer or work in a health care environment.

GHS Medical Experience (MedEx) Academy - Tier II Undergraduate Student Qualifications: 

• Complete online application (application form, essay, school transcript, letters of references, permission slips signed, etc.) 
• Maintain at least a 3.25 GPA 
• Student must have participated in the Tier I medical program or be a student working towards admission to Medical School or some other health care profession. 
• College undergraduates who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours. 
• College undergraduates who have completed one year of courses beyond high school at their college/university. 
• Currently enrolled in an accredited school. 
• Provide transcript demonstrating competencies in basic and advanced courses. 
• Students should demonstrate: 
  • Adherence to directions 
  • Effective verbal, nonverbal, and written communications skills 
  • Desire to learn 
  • Professionalism 
  • Work well with others 
  • Have reliable transportation 
  • Have housing

PREFERRED 

• Students attending colleges/universities in South Carolina. 
• Students who are residents of South Carolina. 
• Students who participate in health related programs. 
• Students who volunteer or work in a health care environment.

GHS Medical Experience (MedEx) Academy - Tier III Undergraduate Student Qualifications: 

• Be a college senior in the Fall of 2013. 
• Have and maintain at least a 3.4 GPA 
• Be working toward admission to medical school or a degree affiliated with a profession in health care. 
• In addition to attributes identified in Tier I and II, students should: 
  • Have ability to interact with personnel at different levels of the organization 
  • Volunteer at some weekend events 
  • Show attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines 
  • Be organized and detail-oriented 
  • Exhibit exceptional communication skills 
  • Have exceptional grammar, spelling, and punctuation 
  • Have familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Meet, train, and mentor high school students

PREFERRED 

• Students attending colleges/universities in South Carolina. 
• Students who are residents of South Carolina. 
• Students who participate in health related programs. 
• Students who volunteer or work in a health care environment.
