Eligibility

GHS Medical Experience (MEDEX) Academy - Tier I High School Student Qualifications:

REQUIRED

  • Complete online application (application form, essay, school transcript,, letters of reference, permission slips signed, etc.) 
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Be a Greenville County Public, Private, or Home School Student
  • Students should: 
    • Adhere to direction 
    • Have effective verbal, nonverbal, and written communications skills 
    • Exhibit desire to learn 
    • Exhibit professionalism 
    • Work well with others 
    • Have reliable transportation

PREFERRED

  • Participate in introductory programs in healthcare such as the Medical Explorers Program, Upstate AHEC, Upstate Coalition, etc.
  • Volunteer or work in a healthcare environment.

GHS Medical Experience (MedEx) Academy - Tier II Undergraduate Student Qualifications:

  • Maintain at least a 3.25 GPA
  • Student must have participated in the Tier I medical program or be a student working towards admission to Medical School. 
  • College undergraduates who have completed a minimum of 60 hours. 
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited school. 
  • Official transcript demonstrating competencies in basic and advanced courses.
  • Successful completion of application process. 
  • Students should demonstrate: 
    • Adherence to directions 
    • Effective verbal, nonverbal, and written communications skills 
    • Desire to learn 
    • Professionalism 
    • Work well with others

GHS Medical Experience (MedEx) Academy - Tier III (Pilot Program) Student Qualifications:

  • College Seniors from Clemson University and any Tier II students from the Summer of 2011

  • Have and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA

  • Student must be working toward admission to medical school or a degree affiliated with a profession in health care

  • College Seniors from Clemson University and any Tier II students from the Summer of 2011

  • In addition to attributes identified in Tier I and II, students should:

    • Have ability to interact with personnel at different levels of the organization

    • Volunteer at some weekend events

    • Show attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines

    • Be organized and detail oriented

    • Exhibit exceptional communication skills

    • Have exceptional grammar, spelling, and punctuation

    • Have familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

    • Meet, train, and assist in directing high school students
