Graduate Medical Education

1st Year

Our Med-Peds residents are a very cohesive, hard working, and fun-loving group of individuals. What attracts residents to our program is a desire to work hard and learn in a supportive, welcoming environment with excellent teaching. The Med-Peds residents fit very well into the medicine and pediatrics categorical programs here and are well-respected by the faculty. Our Med-Peds residents have a diverse range of interests within Med-Peds, but all share a dedication to making this program the best it can be. Our residents are very interested in helping others to learn more about our program, so please feel free to contact them by email.

Why I chose to come to Greenville for Med-Peds:
The welcoming atmosphere was the first thing I noticed about this program. The city and the program both felt like somewhere I could be at home to grow as a physician and a person. During my interview I was impressed with the commitment to academic medicine as well as to med-peds. There was a focus and shared vision among everyone I spoke with that I am eager to become a part of.

Why I chose to come to Greenville for Med-Peds:
The first thing that drew me to Greenville was the people. All of the residents and administrators I met on my interview day were so warm and welcoming! I knew that they would be wonderful people to work with. Dr. Kolarik also really impressed me with how dedicated he is to his residents and to teaching academics at Greenville. I also really loved the city of Greenville. It is just the right size for me and my husband, and we knew that we would be very happy living in Greenville. There is always something fun going on in this town, so whenever you get some time off, there’s always something to enjoy. Greenville has everything we were looking for in a residency program – a great cohesive team of residents that love to work and play together, a program director who is a strong advocate for his residents, and a fun town to enjoy during my days off!

Why I chose to come to Greenville for Med-Peds:
My husband and I chose Greenville because it excels in the three categories we were evaluating: the strength of the program, the awesome residents and staff, and the location. I was very impressed by the faculty. Their passion for teaching and for continuing their own learning was evident, and I am confident that I will receive excellent clinical training from them. The residents were very warm and kind, and my husband and I felt immediately welcomed. Since arriving in Greenville, I have learned that the residents were even more amazing then I could have known! I am excited to have such excellent people to work with and to hang out with in our free time. We also love the city! My husband and I have come to affectionately say, “Everything is better in Greenville.” The downtown area is charming, has plentiful good food, and is home to a beautiful park, and I can’t wait to check out the swamp rabbit trail, the disc golf courses, and the zoo!

Why I chose to come to Greenville for Med-Peds:
Greenville was an unexpected favorite for me. I visited the program because another student from my school had chosen to do Med-Peds at GHS. When I interviewed, I was blown away. Greenville is the ideal blend of a supportive community hospital with plenty of primary care mixed with a rich academic setting and budding new medical school. I quickly saw an atmosphere of collegiality not just among residents and faculty, but among all members of the hospital staff and across departments. After speaking with the program directors and seeing the emphasis on innovative resident education, and meeting with who I found to be the most well-balanced and genuine residents on the interview trail, I left my time there excited about the possibilities. After my interview I walked around the gorgeous Falls Park and called my husband who knew immediately from my enthusiasm that Greenville was where we would be spending residency. From the moment I walked into the hospital, I felt at home. In addition, Greenville is a wonderful place to live with a thriving downtown hosting weekly live music and farmers’ markets, beautiful parks and pristine (14 mile) walking/biking trails, and convenient to all things outdoors: just an hour from great mountains and waterfalls, and a few hours to the beach. Greenville had everything I was looking for in a program and I’m excited to see what the next four years hold!
