Our Med-Peds program was founded in 2002, with our first class of graduates finishing in 2006. Graduates from our program have gone on to a variety of careers in primary care and hospital medicine, as well as fellowship training. Residents from the categorical programs in pediatrics and internal medicine have also gone on to a variety of competitive fellowships upon graduation.
CLASS OF 2012
Drew Goldsmith, M.D. Dr. Goldsmith is a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his Bachelor of Science in Honors Interdisciplinary Studies. He completed his medical school training at the Mercer University School of Medicine in 2008. During his residency at GHS, Drew distinguished himself in many ways. His intern year, he was the sole recipient of the GHS-wide Lily M. and G.D. Jackson Award, was named resident teacher of the year by the USC School of Medicine. Drew was also nominated to the resident chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Drew served as our Med-Peds chief resident in his 4th year and went on several medical mission trips to Haiti and Trinidad. Drew was also the winner of the national Med-Peds Program Director’s Walter Tunnessen Award given to the 4th year Med-Peds resident nationwide who best demonstrates the values of dedicated patient care, excellent teaching, and patient advocacy. Carole Mercer, M.D. Dr. Mercer is a cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology. She completed her medical school training at the Mercer University School of Medicine in 2008. While a Med-Peds resident Carole was a compassionate clinician and a strong advocate for her patients and fellow residents. She participated actively in medical mission trips during her residency and provided relief to a variety of medically needy populations in Brazil. Following graduation Carole will also be joining the Med-Peds hospitalists at Greer Memorial Hospital.
Denny Myers, M.D. Dr. Myers graduated magna cum laude and received his undergraduate degree in the biological sciences from Clemson University, and his MD from the Medical University of South Carolina where he was a Gold Humanism Honor Society recipient. During his residency training, Denny was as a dedicated clinician, warm-hearted patient advocate, and an enthusiastic role model and mentor for his fellow residents. Following graduation, Denny will be joining the Med-Peds hospitalists at Greer Memorial Hospital.
CLASS OF 2011
Scott Annett, M.D. Dr. Annett received his B.S. in biology and chemistry from the University of Richmond where he was also a member of the men’s varsity soccer team. He then went on to receive his MD degree from the Medical College of Virginia. Scott also performed exceptionally well as a resident for us and served as our Med-Peds chief resident for 2010-11. Upon graduation Scott joined a Med-Peds hospitalist practice at Maury Regional Medical Center outside of Nashville, TN.
Andy Bowe, D.O. Dr. Bowe received his undergraduate degree in the biomedical sciences from the Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and his DO from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. During his residency training, Andy distinguished himself as a caring clinician, an enthusiastic teacher, and an outstanding role model. Following graduation, Andy has joined our Med-Peds hospitalist group at Greer Memorial Hospital.
Nancy Cox, M.D. Dr. Cox received her undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia. She completed her medical school training at the Mercer University School of Medicine in 2007. During her residency, Nancy was an outstanding clinician and dedicated teacher and advocate for her fellow residents and students. Following graduation, Nancy returned to Georgia to honor a commitment to the underserved patients of rural Georgia with Physician’s Health Group, a multi-specialty primary care group affiliated with Jefferson Hospital in Louisville, GA.
Amanda O’Kelly. M.D. Dr. O'Kelly is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Furman University. She is also an Alpha Omega Alpha graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine where she was named a Carolina Medical Scholar and received a full-tuition merit-based scholarship. During her residency, Amanda quickly distinguished herself as an exceptionally dedicated clinician, teacher and leader. Amanda has also served admirably as the president of the GHS House Staff for 2010-11. After graduation, Amanda will be serving as pediatric chief resident, while also working with Heritage Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, our outpatient Med-Peds faculty practice in Simpsonville, SC.

Heather Moreira, M.D. - Dr. Moreira received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia where she graduated magna cum laude and her MD from Mercer University School of Medicine. During her residency training, Heather distinguished herself as a meticulous clinician and enthusiastic teacher. Following graduation, Heather joined Heritage Pediatrics and Internal Medicine which is our first Med-Peds practice at Hillcrest Hospital in Simpsonville.
Stefanie Putnam, M.D. - Dr. Putnam is a magna cum laude graduate of Furman University where she majored in both music and pre-medical studies. She completed her medical school training at the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in 2006 where she was the president of the Brody Chapter of the AMA medical student section. During her intern year, Stefanie was awarded the Lily M. and G. D. Jackson Award, presented to most outstanding interns in the Greenville Health System and continued to be an exceptional clinician and role model throughout her residency. Following graduation, Stefanie joined Heritage Pediatrics and Internal Medicine in Simpsonville and will continue to be an important part of our residency program.
Zach Stone, M.D. - Dr. Stone received his B.A. in psychology from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. He then went on to receive his M.D. degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Zach also performed exceptionally well as a resident for us and served as our Med-Peds chief resident during his 4th year. After graduation Zach joined a Med-Peds faculty practice affiliated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Moody, Alabama.
CLASS OF 2009
Jeremy Byrd, M.D. - Dr. Byrd completed his medical school training at the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine where he graduated AOA in 2005. After graduation, Jeremy will be staying at GHS to start an adult medicine practice at Hillcrest Hospital in an office that is planned to serve as a Med-Peds faculty practice. He will also serve as an attending on the medical teaching service, will work as a pediatric provider in the Center for Pediatric Medicine, and will also continue to sponsor international health trips for GHS residents.
Heather Hawthorne, M.D. - Dr. Hawthorne joined the GHS Med-Peds program after completing medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and served as one of our Med-Peds chief residents. After graduation, Heather started her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
George Petro, M.D. - Dr. Petro joined the GHS Med-Peds program after graduating AOA from Mercer University School of Medicine in 2005. Following graduation George returned to his hometown of Dahlonega, GA to practice primary care Med-Peds.
Sharon Wondrachek, M.D. - Dr. Wondrachek joined our program after graduating from the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. Sharon also served as one of our Med-Peds chief residents this year. After graduation, Sharon joined the UMG Internal Medicine office in Patewood and will also care for pediatric patients with Greenville Pediatrics part time.

Jeff Gerac, M.D. - Dr. Gerac is a graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 2004. Jeff served as Med-Peds chief resident here during his 4th year. Currently Jeff is a Med-Peds hospitalist at Greer Memorial Hospital. Jeff also attends on the pediatric wards at Children’s Hospital.
Gregg Johnson, M.D. - Dr. Johnson is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in 2004. He served as a Med-Peds hospitalist at Greer Memorial Hospital from 2008-2012 and will now be joining Drew Goldsmith at Heritage Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, Wren.
Stephanie Reckenbiel, D.O. - Dr. Reckenbiel completed her medical school training at Oklahoma Osteopathic Medicine in 2004. After residency, Stephanie completed a sports medicine fellowship program here at GHS. She is currently working in primary care Med-Peds in Oklahoma.
Jerrod Reynolds, M.D. - Dr. Reynolds is a graduate of Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. He is currently working in private practice in Charleston, SC.
CLASS OF 2007
Lisa Darby, M.D. - Dr. Darby is a 2003 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. After completion of her Med-Peds residency, Lisa undertook a fellowship program in vascular medicine here at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Wes Jones, M.D. - Dr. Jones is a 2003 graduate of the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. After completing his first two years of Med-Peds training at the University of Tennessee, he transferred to Greenville and graduated in 2007. Wes served as a Med-Peds hospitalist at Greer Memorial Hospital until 2010 and now practices Med-Peds hospital medicine in North Carolina.
Christa McCann, M.D. - Dr. McCann graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 2003. Upon graduation, she went into private practice at the Eastside University Medical Group in Greenville, SC.
Lydia Nichols, M.D. - Dr. Nichols graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2003. After completing her Med-Peds residency program at GHS, Lydia undertook a second residency in anesthesiology at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
CLASS OF 2006
Stephanie Anderson, M.D. - Dr. Anderson is a 2001 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in Columbia. Stephanie then undertook a Developmental-behavioral pediatrics fellowship at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Matt Hindman, M.D. - Dr. Hindman is a 2002 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Matthew was a founding member of the Med-Peds Hospitalist Group at Greer Memorial Hospital where he continues to work and direct the Med-Peds hospitalist rotation for our residents.
