The Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) comprises of a voting membership which includes the designated institutional officer, program directors of each residency and fellowship, house staff liaison officers nominated by their peers, and the academic services administrator. The GME education consultant and staff support, other faculty, and guests may be invited to these GME management meetings. The Greenville Health System GMEC meets on the fourth Thursday of each month.
GMEC is responsible for establishing and implementing policies and procedures regarding the quality of education and the work environment for the residents in all programs. These policies include stipends and position allocation, supervision and communication with Program Directors, resident duty hours, resident supervision, communication with medical staff, curriculum and evaluation, resident status, oversight of program accreditation, management of institutional accreditation; oversight of program changes, experimentation and innovation, oversight of reductions and closures, and vendor interactions.
