The Greenville Hospital System/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Pediatric Residency Program at Greenville Hospital System Children’s Hospital provides teaching and clinical experience that enables residents to become capable, competent, compassionate pediatricians. An emphasis is placed on close preceptorship and individual skill building. A congenial, supportive relationship among faculty, residents, and medical students helps to minimize the stress common to residency training. The Children’s Hospital delivers quality primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare to children in upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina, and northern Georgia.
The Pediatric Residency Program of Greenville Hospital System Children’s Hospital is a three-year training program, fully approved by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education. Twenty-eight residents are currently in the training program, nine at each of the three levels and one chief (PL-4) resident. The current pediatric residents represent 12 medical schools. The program’s size is ideal for extensive interaction between faculty and residents. Residents routinely participate in curriculum and faculty evaluations, and attend monthly meetings and an off-campus faculty retreat.
We select residents at the postgraduate year-one level through the National Resident Matching Program. We require all applicants to visit Greenville Hospital System for an interview. In general, residents chosen for our program are from the upper quartile of their graduating class.
