Greenville Hospital System is one of the Southeast’s leading healthcare providers, nationally recognized for advanced technology, innovative research, and teaching excellence. The system's five campuses include a Level I trauma center, four acute care hospitals, and numerous outpatient facilities.
Greenville Hospital System is a Hybrid Community-University Model. Having grown over its 90 years from a single community hospital to a comprehensive, integrated delivery system comprised of three acute care hospitals and 12 specialty healthcare facilities, GHS is focused on high-volume, high-quality patient care enhanced by education and research. Because of its history, GHS is the ideal “community-university” model of resident education to give you hands-on patient experience augmented by the advantages of our role as an academic medical center.
Greenville Hospital System/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Residency Programs in the Greenville Hospital System Division for Academic Services offer primary care experience as well as specialty and sub-specialty rotations found in university programs. Residents receive a broad-based education – with a personal touch---from attending faculty and community physicians. While volume, technology, professional expertise, and research are important, personal care and customer service are emphasized as well.
In mentoring residents, we strive to create an appropriate balance between providing supervision and granting independence in patient care. We view our residents as fully practicing physicians, and consequently, expect them to be committed both to providing the best of care and to learning all they can.
Greenville Hospital System is affiliated with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine (USCMS). Currently, 30 medical students from USCMS spend their entire third and fourth years of medical school at Greenville Hospital System, which serves as a satellite clinical medical campus for the university. Our fully approved residency programs currently include 150 residents in eight programs.
The Accreditation Committee for Graduate Medical Education has approved two new fellowships to be offered at Greenville Hospital System. Both were launched July 1.
