Upstate cancer patients seeking hope in the most recent experimental treatments may no longer have to travel long distances to receive therapy. The Clinical Research Unit, established in collaboration with Greenville Hospital System Cancer Center and CancerCenters of the Carolinas, performs trials of new drugs intended either to prevent cancerous tumors from growing or to get rid of them altogether. Advanced clinical research – and hope – is available to upstate patients, many of whom have not found standard therapies effective, and allows them the comfort and convenience of not having to travel far for treatment.

CancerCenters of the Carolinas has long been involved in clinical trials through the Greenville Community Clinial Oncology Program (CCOP) and is affiliated with US Oncology, a nationwide cancer management service with an emphasis on creating access for new drug development.
