Behavioral Health Services at Marshall I. Pickens Hospital

Behavioral Health Services of the Greenville Hospital System provides a complete spectrum of care and services to diagnose and treat emotional and psychological disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. Inpatient acute care for the treatment of depression and all other mental illnesses is available through Marshall I. Pickens Hospital.

In all of the programs, the treatment plan is individualized to meet the specific needs of each patient. A highly qualified team of doctors, nurses, technicians, pharmacists, and therapists work together to provide the best care of its type in the Upstate.

Clinical Assessment and Referral (CARC)

Marshall I. Pickens has this CARC service available to assess and make treatment determinations for the most appropriate level and type of care needed to address an individual’s problem. This is the point of entry into the other programs. Caring and professional staff greet the patient/family and assist with the initial evaluation and admission process.

Adult Program

The Adult Program is offered to treat those individuals aged 18 and over. We provide stabilization of acute symptoms via medical management, therapeutic environment, and various therapies. There are many groups and classes that provide education and stabilization of mental health issues. The Skills Track is available for those that need extra assistance with improving coping skills.

Child and Adolescent Inpatient Program

This program is designed to serve youths ages 5 to 17 who are unable to be managed in an outpatient setting. The emotional, physical, and educational needs of each patient are assessed and treated. The goal of the hospitalization is stabilization. A large component to the treatment involves family therapy and involvement.

Geropsychiatry Services

This program serves individuals who are aged 60 and above. We provide assessment and treatment of psychiatric illness and memory disorders in senior adults. It is an inpatient program that focuses on stabilization of the emotional, physical, and spiritual health, with particular emphasis on treating the psychiatric issues in senior adults.

Children’s Residential Treatment Program

The Children’s Residential Program at Marshall I. Pickens Hospital helps children ages 6 to 12 who suffer from serious behavioral health issues to develop appropriate emotional, social, and coping skills. Skilled professionals provide counseling, education and a variety of programs. There is a strong parental/family component which requires frequent visits to the campus and involvement in the treatment program. The average length of stay is 9 – 12 months.

ADDLife™ Addiction Services

Adults suffering from addiction can find help through the supportive therapeutic environment. We offer a medically supervised detoxification program that occurs on an inpatient basis. In addition, there is an intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) that meets 5 days per week. In concert with these, several on-site AA/NA meetings are held on the campus. An Aftercare Program is available for those individuals who successfully complete the treatment program.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

This is a program for adults aged 18 and over who require less structure than an inpatient setting, yet have the need for an intensive program to address their mental health needs. Often used as a “step-down” from the inpatient units, PHP utilizes medical management and therapies to assist the patients in developing skills and goals to improve their overall functioning.
