Children's Emergency Center

The Upstate’s only dedicated Children’s Emergency Center treats approximately 25,000 children each year. Physicians are board-certified or double-boarded in emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, and/or pediatrics, and more than 30 pediatric sub-specialists are available for consultation. If admitted, patients receive the highest-level pediatric care in the region at GHS Children’s Hospital, which includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unitand Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Tailored just for kids, GHS Children’s Emergency Center is uniquely designed for children and young people, from medical equipment to patient rooms. An examination table can be disguised as a purple hippopotamus or take the form of a parent’s lap. Everyone on staff approaches emergency care through the eyes of a child, and all are specially trained in pediatric care and sensitive to the needs of children and their families.

Follow the Leader: Building Safe Kids for Tomorrow, 1994-2003 Progress Report on Preventing Unintentional Injuries, tracks a decade of work in prevention and maps out a strategy for the next decade. To see the study or for more safety information, visit www.safekidsupstate.org.
