Family Medicine Chief Residents' Letter

Greetings from Greenville, South Carolina!

You are about to make one of the most important decisions of your professional life. The Family Medicine residency program you choose will profoundly affect your development as a physician and as a person, and it will influence the course of your career for years to come. As you prepare to make this significant decision, we encourage you to explore the Family Medicine residency program here in Greenville, South Carolina.

We have an exciting and dynamic program that we are very proud of. Nestled in the foothills of the mountains, our scenic view is spectacular. We are three hours away from the beaches and less than an hour from the mountains. But, with so much to do in the city of Greenville, you may never want to leave the city. The Bi-Lo Center provides top live music concerts and sporting events. The Peace Center brings top of the line Broadway plays and classical music concerts. The only one of its kind in the country, the Liberty Bridge is a cantilevered and curved walkway above the Reedy River providing an awesome view of the public gardens and falls below. The city of Greenville has a large international community, so theĀ  downtown food fare is amazing. For those of you with children, Greenville has many fine schools and churches.

Greenville Memorial Hospital is a 700-bed Level I Trauma Center. It is the largest acute care hospital in South Carolina, serving over 1 million people each year. As a part of The Greenville Hospital System University Medical Cente, it is financially sound (not losing money). There is a faculty of over 200. Because of the close relationship and extensive interaction with the faculty, the atmosphere is very conducive to learning. Residents and attendings socialize in extra-curricular activities - basketball, volleyball, golf, fishing, skiing, hiking, camping, river rafting, and even rock climbing.

With all of the pluses, the best part is our program in Family Medicine. As residents, we get along well with each other and with the other departments. We have our own building and the facility is first rate. We have an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to improve the quality of patient care. In addition to resident offices and treatment rooms, the Center for Family Medicine (CFM) also has the following: minor surgery room, colposcopy room, stress test room, and a casting room. The CFM is a friendly environment with a very capable staff - we enjoy coming to the office.

The opportunities to learn as a physician, to grow as a person, and experience a quality lifestyle are all here in one place.

Come visit us in Greenville, South Carolina!
