Bariatric Surgery at Hillcrest Memorial Hospital

Using guidelines established by the National Institutes of Health, UMG Department of Surgery - Bariatric and General Surgery offer patients more than 100 pounds over their ideal body weight or a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or greater surgical weight-loss options. Candidates with a BMI between 35 and 40 may be candidates for surgery if they suffer from comorbid conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, lung disease, severe acid reflux and/or arthritis.

Treatment includes: 

  • Surgical weight-loss including Laparoscopic Divided Roux-ex-Y Gastric Bypass and Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (Lap Band)
  • Comprehensive pre-surgical evaluations and life-long follow up care
  • Complete nutritional evaluation and unlimited pre-surgery and post-surgery nutritional support from registered dietitians
  • Complete pre-surgery psychological assessment and unlimited post-surgery psychological support
  • Weekly pre-surgery and post-surgery group support sessions facilitated by a psychologist, a surgeon or a dietician
