Materials Management

For the last three decades Greenville Hospital System (GHS) has had two servicing areas that supplied the product needs for the system. The Supply and Distribution Center (SDC) has supplied the system with its bulk product needs, shipping, receiving, storage, distribution, purchasing, internal customer service, print shop, and mail center functions. While at the same time, Material Services, located at Greenville Memorial Hospital, has provided individual unit of issue products, storage, distribution, and Omnicell services. In August of 2005, the relocation and consolidation for both of these service areas into one "Materials Distribution Center" (MDC) was started and is now complete.

The new location (see map) is located off of I-385 (toward Simpsonville) on Holland Road next to the Charter Communications Headquarters. The building includes offices, current functional areas, and warehouse functions within 123,000 square foot footprint. The warehouse facility includes state-of-the-art distribution technologies with carousels, pick to light, and a warehouse management system. The facility houses Materials Management and Materials Services and includes Management staff, Purchasing (product, services, and capital), Warehouse Management, Print Shop, Mail Center, Linen, and Capital Equipment.

MDC covers all GHS campuses including, but not limited to; Greenville Memorial Medical Campus, Greer Campus (Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital), Simpsonville Campus (Hillcrest Hospital), North Greenville Campus, and the Patewood Campus. A supplier's first point of contact is with the Purchasing Department for an orientation. All GHS purchases are aggregated and applied to all GHS campuses and entities.
