Greenville Hospital System/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Residency Programs in the Greenville Hospital System Division for Academic Services offer primary care experience as well as specialty and subspecialty rotations found in university programs. Residents receive a broad-based education – with a personal touch from attending faculty and community physicians. While volume, technology, professional expertise, and research are important, GHS emphasizes personal care and customer service as well.
One of our program’s major assets is the close relationship our faculty builds with residents. The size of our program is ideal for extensive interaction between faculty and residents. We’re proud of the collegial atmosphere in our program, an atmosphere born of mutual respect between residents and attendings. This tenor helps to minimize the stress common to residency programs.
In mentoring residents, we strive to create an appropriate balance between providing supervision and granting independence in patient care. We view our residents as fully practicing physicians, and, consequently, expect them to be committed both to providing the best of care and to learning all they can.
We are affiliated with the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Currently, 24 medical students from USC spend their entire third and fourth years of medical school at GHS, which serves as a satellite clinical medical campus for USC School of Medicine.
Our fully-approved residency programs currently include 130 residents in eight programs.
