Children's Hospital, of the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center, and the Parent-Teacher Association of South Carolina have teamed up to give parents easily accessible information to help ensure their children's health, safety, and academic success.

The Family Guide for Healthy, Safe, and Successful Children is a 52-page booklet that includes information on common medical emergencies, tips on handling frequent health concerns, ways to keep children safe, and strategies that promote school success. The practical, easy-to-use reference guide will help parents identify potential problems early and determine when the problems are serious enough to seek professional advice from the child's physician, guidance counselor, or teacher. The booklet also provides information on obesity and illegal drugs, major health issues facing children.

More than 225,000 printed copies and 2,700 CD-ROMs will be provided free of charge to parents, schools, public libraries and physician offices throughout the state.
