Med-Peds Curriculum

The curriculum of our Med-Peds program at the Greenville Hospital System is designed to give our residents a broad exposure to primary and specialty care for adults and children in a variety of settings. Our residents rotate from medicine to pediatrics every 3 months throughout the four years of residency, with a gradual increase in the level of responsibility over the 4 years. Our residents function at the PGY-1 level for 15 months, and then assume supervisory roles on both medicine and pediatrics. Each academic year at GHS is broken down into 13 four-week blocks.

MTS – Medical Teaching Service (Inpatient Medicine Ward)
CCM—Critical Care Medicine
PTS – Pulmonary Teaching Service (Inpatient Pulmonary Ward)
CTS – Cardiology Teaching Service (Inpatient Cardiology Ward)
NF – Night Float (2 week block only)
Ambulatory IM – Internal Medicine Resident Clinic Rotation or Private Practice
Ambulatory Peds – Center for Pediatric Medicine (includes acute care)
MP Hospitalist – Med-Peds Hospitalist Teaching Service at Greer Memorial 

Peds Specialty –Pediatric elective experiences are available in the following specialties at GHS:  Allergy/Immunology, Cardiology, Critical Care, Endocrinology, Hematology/Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonology, Infectious Disease, Gastroenterology, Genetics, Child-Adolescent Psychiatry, Community Private Practice, and Dermatology. 

IM Specialty – Internal medicine subspecialty experiences in Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Cardiology and Endocrinology are part of the core curriculum.  Two additional electives may be chosen by the resident.  Additional electives include Allergy/lmmunology, Anesthesia, Electrophysiology, Gynecology, Hematology/Oncology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Community Private Practice, Sports Medicine, Stress Testing, Procedures and Vascular Medicine. 

In addition, international and away rotations are available to GHS Med-Peds residents.
