Our Med-Peds residents are a very cohesive, hard working, and fun-loving group of individuals. What attracts residents to our program is a desire to work hard and learn in a supportive, welcoming environment with excellent teaching. The Med-Peds residents fit very well into the medicine and pediatrics categorical programs here and are well-respected by the faculty. Our Med-Peds residents have a diverse range of interests within Med-Peds, but all share a dedication to making this program the best it can be. Our residents are very interested in helping others to learn more about our program, so please feel free to contact them by email.

Why you chose to come to Greenville for Med-Peds: I spent one month during a 4th year rotation at Greenville Memorial Hospital and, after one week, was certain that I wanted to train in Greenville. The IM and categorical programs are both strong and regularly have residents fill competitive fellowship positions. I found the residents to be a group who enjoyed working together, spent time together outside the hospital, and provided excellent care for patients both in the hospital and in the clinic. The attendings on both IM and Peds are eager to teach and really enjoy working with residents. This is a great place to get excellent training in a “hybrid model”, combining the best of both a community setting and an academic center with expanding research opportunities. Also, the hospital values the residents and demonstrates that in various ways. The city of Greenville immediately grabbed my attention after going downtown the very first time. There is so much to do, see, and enjoy in a place that doesn’t feel huge but has the attractions of a big city.

Why I Choose Greenville for Med-Peds: When I began looking at Med-Peds programs, I had never heard of Greenville, SC and I certainly didn’t think I would stay so close home (Georgia). But after my first visit here, I was amazed at all the program and Greenville itself had to offer. Ultimately, I felt I would get the best possible training in the best possible environment, and so far I have been right! I couldn’t be happier with my choice. The residents in Med-Peds, Peds and Medicine are amazing! We work together and play together. The environment at GHS is one of team work and continual learning. Outside the hospital, residents are always getting together for dinner, sports, or even a round of putt putt golf. The attendings are enthusiastic and devoted to teachings in both categorical programs, as well as the many great Med-Peds attendings. Residents graduate with the training enabling them to pursue their career goals whether it’s a fellowship, private practice, or hospital medicine. All three programs work very well together so that you are a peds resident on peds and a medicine resident on medicine, while still maintaining an identity as a Med-Peds resident. There are also many other great things like a simulation center to practice the procedures you will do, lots of patients with lots of pathology to learn from, great facilities conveniently located in one place, free food, and informative didactic conferences. And to top it all off, Greenville is a fabulous place to live. It is close to the mountains, beaches and big cities. There is great dining, shopping, live music, and many opportunities for outdoor recreation from lakes to hiking trails to golf courses. In addition, there is a Saturday morning farmer’s market and a free Tuesday night drive in movie—just to name a few. I couldn’t imagine a better place to live and work or a better group of people to work with and learn from!

Why I chose to come to come to Greenville for Med-Peds: I have always loved the upstate and Greenville, SC. After visiting Greenville Hospital System during my 4th year in medical school, I gained a strong sense of the closeness, the family, and the opportunities of the program. I felt very welcomed and comfortable with the residents and faculty during my visit here. I was made very confident in the ability to pursue many different fellowship opportunities here if I choose to. The city of Greenville has also grown to be a beautiful town over the last several years with many opportunities to be in the outdoors but with also everything you would find in the big city. I am also 3 hours from the beach, 2 hours from the mountains for skiing and snowboarding in North Carolina and less than an hour from Clemson, for the Tiger sports fans.
